One of Asia’s leading airlines, Singapore Airlines was opened for travel on 1st May, 1947. In 1972, the airline was split as Malaysian Airline System and Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA). With its headquarters at Singapore, it operates its primary hub at Singapore Changi Airport.

SIA operates 106(+52 orders) flights to 61 destinations in 35 countries. It serves five continents and operates largely in the Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia and Kangaroo route (air routes between Australia and the UK flown by Qantas).

It also operates trans-Pacific flights that include the world’s two longest non-stop flights from Singapore to Los Angeles and Newark on A340-500.

SIA is one of the members of world’s first and largest airline Alliance, Star Alliance. It also has codeshare agreements with Garuda Indonesia, Malaysia Airlines, SilkAir and Virgin Atlantic airways.

SIA has backed numerous awards for the services it offers to the passengers. Its standard of service has earned it the World’s Best Cabin Staff at 2010 World Airlines Awards, The World’s Most Awarded Airline and many to add to its credit.

SIA offers different classes of In-flight services comprising of Singapore Airlines Suites, First class, Business class and Economy class. The Singapore Airlines Suites is offered only on the Airbus A380 flying to Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Paris, Sydney, Tokyo and Zurich.

First class cabins have four variations and are offered only on corresponding flights. The variations are in the seats and the services are the same in all four types. Business class cabins have variations in the beds and seats in different flights. Economy class services are the same in all flights. Some flights have some additional facilities added in the recent years.

SIA offers World Gourmet Cuisine in all three classes of services. Passengers in all three classes can also enjoy a Popular Local Fare Culinary programme that offers local favorites. ‘Book the Cook’ service is offered to Business and First class passengers on some flights.

In 1997, SIA introduced an In-flight entertainment system, KrisWorld. Initially, 14 movies, 36 television programmes, games, 5 cartoons, fax and text news were offered in all classes. Followed by that, Wisemen 3000, many features movies, games, music, TV programmes were added. An internet service was also activated. Based on the class, at present different features are made available for In-flight entertainment.

SIA’s frequent flyer program offers two categories namely KrisFlyer and The PPS Club. KrisFlyer is categorized into KrisFlyer, KrisFlyer Elite Silver and KrisFlyer Elite Gold. Based on the miles earned, the memberships are offered. Miles can be earned and redeemed only in SIA and KrisFlyer partners. The PPS (Priority Passenger Service) is offered for passengers who have PPS value of S$25,000 in a year. Nay PPS Club member can qualify for Solitaire PPS Club by reaching a PPS value of S$250,000 in five years. PPS members enjoy facilities like priority check-in, access to all classes, Economy class if Business and First class cabins are wait listed. Solitaire PPS members can get all services for their spouses as well.

Business, First class, KrisFlyer Silver, KrisFlyer Gold, PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club members have access to Silver Kris lounges and other lounges operated by the partners. The partner lounges include London, Melbourne, Singapore, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Brisbane, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, San Francisco and Taipei.
