Cricket and England

England is well known for its sporting traditions. When you say Cricket, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely England. Cricket is world’s third largest and most viewed sporting event and it’s an honour that England is the founder behind all forms of crickets including test matches, one day internationals and the various T20 matches played all over the world. Documentaries and predictions say cricket originated from different games like Kreckett, Stoolball, baseball and some other ball games. Some say 13th, some 15th, while others say it has grown from the 15th century and was successful as a complete game only in the eighteenth century.
England being the home to Cricket plays its part in different cricket tournaments played all over the world.
Manchester is a city located in the South Central part of North West England and is a borough in Greater Manchester. The history of the city dates back to the 1st century.
The world’s first railway station was constructed in this site. It is also the site from where the first programmable computer was developed by splitting an atom. The city is renowned for various aspects. But, sporting connections are exceptional! Manchester is best known for its football team, Manchester United. Football has been a key part of Manchester life and this team is the most supported team not only in Manchester but they have a following worldwide.
Manchester is famous for generating the World famous Brit-pop scene ‘Madchester’ in the early 90’s. The night life in the city has gradually become quiet, but even today it is an envy of many British cities.
Westminster is one of Central London’s major tourist hubs on the North banks of River Thames. Located in the heart of the City of Westminster, this site houses some of London’s prestigious landmarks like Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Parliament Building of London, Westminster Cathedral…
Westminster is steeped with centuries of Royal history with the Westminster Abbey being the traditional venue of the city. The present site is historically part of Middlesex, one of London’s historic counties. The Abbey was built on the Thorney Island which is considered to be the core of the city. The Royal residence of the since 1066, the Palace of Westminster is located next to the Abbey and currently houses the Parliament and Law Courts of Britain. The Monarchy and law courts were moved to the Palace of Whitehall and the Royal Courts of Justice. One of the major English Schools, Westminster School is sited close to the Palace and Abbey. It’s also a residential area with traditional working class people.

London Stansted Airport
London Stansted Airport is the third largest and busiest airport in the United Kingdom. It is the newest of all passenger airports in the UK and is 50 kilometres northeast of the capital city. The Airport serves European, domestic UK and some continental flights. The airport has only one terminal and attracts over 22 million people every year.
Local Transport
Train
The airport has one station under the terminal. Stansted Express operates services for every 15 minutes to Liverpool Street Station and the travel time is 45 minutes. Trains also operate to Cambridge and the Midlands.
Bus
Bus station at Stansted Airport lies between zones C and D of the short-term car parking area. An express bus operates services to all destinations in London and the travel time is more than 90 minutes. Bus services also operate to other destinations like Oxford and Cambridge.

Wimbledon 2011
Only days left for the grand slam hunters to gain a sack load in the upcoming Wimbledon 2011 tournament with a total prize fund of £14,600,000. Both men and women on the courts desperate to win titles, this event captivates audiences with moments of glory and misfortune alike from the traditional home of English tennis the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Wimbledon 2011 is eagerly awaited, for this is the 125th anniversary of the championship tournament, that follows conventional form, this is the only grand slam tournament played on grass since its inception in 1877. This tournament is special as it follows the original game standards of tennis and has its own uniqueness in tradition and events.
London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
London Heathrow Airport is the largest and busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the fourth busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic.
LHR is 22 kilometres to the west of London city centre and is at the edge of Greater London. The airport has five terminals and 3 runways. Terminal 2 has been closed for renovation since 2009. Over 90 airlines operate flights to over 170 destinations and the airport has a passenger presence of more than 90 million every year, the airport is a primary hub for BMI and British Airways and is a base for Virgin Atlantic Airways.
